Fall, winter and spring are the “hot” times for birding in Central Florida. Things slow down as the temperatures go up in summer.
While many migratory visitors have moved on, there is still a tremendous variety of birds to photograph across the area. It’s just a bit more uncomfortable with the heat, humidity and omnipresent mosquitos.
Here are just a few of the summertime Florida birds I have photographed recently:
Peregrine Falcons, Bald Eagles, American Kestrels and Northern Harriers returning to the area for winter have joined the year-round raptor residents, the Red-shouldered Hawks.
I didn’t have seeing this owl on my list of expectations, but that’s part of the wonderful surprises you can get at this urban oasis.
Yes, most of the migratory birds have left but there is still an entertaining cast of native birds to be seen.
