It just wouldn’t seem like summer without having little Barn Swallows darting and diving around Lake Apopka.
This is the third consecutive summer I have been able to photograph the little birds with cobalt blue, rusty orange and white coloring. (Of course, I’ve only been into birding for three years. I’m sure they have been coming to Lake Apopka much longer than that.)
AllAboutBirds.org says they’re long-distance migrants. “Barn Swallows fly from North American breeding grounds to wintering areas in Central and South America.”
That matches what I have seen previously. These birds like to nest under some of the bridges along Lake Apopka during June and July, and before long I hope to have photographs of some little swallows along with their parents.
