Remembering Roseate Spoonbills this season

Roger Simmons, May 21, 2023June 13, 2023

Spring is turning in to summer quickly here in Florida, but you don’t need a calendar to tell that at Orlando Wetlands Park.

Back in January, the park was teeming with Roseate Spoonbills who were settling in for the winter, getting ready to start making and raising little spoonies.

Now it’s May, and the last of those Roseate youngsters have fledged. Only a few remain hanging around the park.

As you may know from my post about my 100th bird photographed, a Roseate Spoonbill was the first bird I took a picture of this year. I love their colors and their seemingly playful attitude. I would often say they would literally stop and pose for photographers at the park.

But as they move on, here are a few of my favorite photos of Roseate Spoonbills this season. Click on an image below to launch the gallery.

I’m looking forward to their return later this year.
