It’s like a nursey full of pink Roseate Spoonbill babies

Roger Simmons, April 7, 2025April 7, 2025

The Orlando Wetlands is not a daycare center, but it’s as chaotic as one right now with all the Roseate Spoonbill babies.

After a stretch when it seemed all the babies in the Roseate nests at the wetlands hatched at once, now there are a bunch of not-so-little birds crowding their homes and parents. (With how quickly they’ve been growing, it’s hard to keep calling the baby Roseates “teaspoons” anymore. Maybe they’re “toddler tablespoons” now?)

While the kids are being kids in the nests, one parent is usually on babysitting duty while the other is out looking for food or nest-repair material to bring home. And the cycle repeats over and over again.

Not that I paid close attention before, but I am also struck by how several nests at the wetlands have four toddler Roseates. Oh, their poor parents!

But I have to say, the little Roseates in their light pink plumage look pretty darn cute.
