Orlando Wetlands has been full of Roseate Spoonbills this spring, but time is running out on how much longer the pretty-in-pink birds will be hanging around.
The adults are still milling around, and there are still nests with not-so-little spoonies.
But it won’t be long until the fast-growing little ones fledge – and then they and their parents will depart the wetlands before the hot Florida summer arrives.
Last year, I think I saw the last of the Rosies at the wetlands in late May. It wasn’t until September that I started to see them return.
So, it’s time to “think pink” and enjoy the Roseate Spoonbills while they’re around.
(Side note: This is the first time I have noticed that the little spoonies have what looks like blue makeup around their eyes.)
