Finally, a picture-perfect Bald Eagle at Orlando Wetlands

Roger Simmons, October 28, 2023October 28, 2023

Since I started going to the Orlando Wetlands on Jan. 1, 2023, I have been trying – and ultimately failing – to get some decent pictures of the Bald Eagle couple who rule the roost at the park.

I’ve had several opportunities, but lighting, camera settings or location have thwarted my attempts.

Until this past Friday.

After work, I decided to visit the wetlands at sunset – really to focus on finding some little birds and not so much on the eagles. But as I came around one of the trails, I could see off in the distance that one of the eagles was hanging out by an old Osprey nest — which has become a popular place for the birds.

About 15 minutes later, when I got closer to the nest, the eagle was still there.

And the lighting was good.

And I had my camera settings right this time.

It all added up to some pictures of the national symbol I am finally proud of producing.

This Bald Eagle definitely has spotted me trying to takes its picture close to sunset at Orlando Wetlands in October 2023.
