More to see at UCF than just the Knights? How about these birds

Roger Simmons, June 22, 2023August 5, 2023

UCF is one of my favorite places to spend time in the fall, cheering on the Knights football team with my family and friends.

But it’s also become a place I like to go to in the spring and early summer, thanks to the variety of birds that call the UCF Arboretum home.

I usually have little stories and post photos related to the birds I photograph there, but I also have taken some pictures I like that don’t necessarily have a backstory.

So, here are some of my overlooked photos from recent visits to the Arboretum:

This male Easter Towhee keeps a watchful eye on the happenings at the UCF Arboretum in June 2023.
This male Eastern Towhee is keeping tabs on one of its offspring nearby at the UCF Arboretum in June 2023.
A juvenile Eastern Towhee is looking for its parents at the UCF Arboretum in June 2023.
This juvenile Eastern Towhee is trying to hide in the needles of a pine tree at the UCF Arboretum in June 2023.
This male Northern Cardinal looks striking with its red feathers against the green background at the UCF Arboretum.
A female Northern Cardinal keeps an eye out for one of its offspring at the UCF Arboretum.
A juvenile Northern Cardinal waits for its mom and dad to check on it at the UCF Arboretum in June 2023.
This Northern Mocking bird displays its yellow and black eyes and is showing a little attitude at the UCF Arboretum in June 2023.
A Northern Mockingbird peers down on the UCF Arboretum in June 2023.
A Northern Mockingbird sits on a branch at the UCF Arboretum in June 2023.
This Sandhill Crane looks like it got into a bag of Cheetos, but really it was digging in the clay at the UCF softball stadium in June 2023.
This Blue-gray Gnatcatcher appears to be having fun looking down on the UCF Arboretum in June 2023.
A little Blue-gray Gnatcathcer – they’re only about 4 inches – rests on the branch of a magnolia tree at the UCF Arboretum in June 2023.
A tiny Brown-headed Nuthatch flits around a pine tree at the UCF Arboretum in June 2023. The little bird is only 4-1/2 inches.
The world is upside down for this Brown-headed Nuthatch as its looks for small bugs under the bark on this pine tree at the UCF Arboretum in June 2023.
