Here’s the first of a new series of posts focusing on one particular bird and some of the photos I’ve taken of it.
We’ll start with the Red-winged Blackbird, which really is one of my favorite birds to photograph.
When I see a male Red-winged Blackbird, with his colorful red, yellow and black wings, it’s hard not to stop and take a few pictures. The females are equally intriguing with their brown and white patterns.
And, I love to hear them call to one another whenever I am hiking around wetlands, forests or even my neighborhood.

I visited near sunset on Tuesday and ended up seeing three sets of youngsters – baby Roseate Spoonbills, baby Great Egrets and, of course, Sandhill Crane colts.
