For Snowy Egret, it’s lunch on the boardwalk

Roger Simmons, March 23, 2023June 13, 2023

A Snowy Egret stopped by to grab a little lunch at the Cypress Boardwalk at Orlando Wetlands Park. Fortunately for me, I got photograph the whole thing.

The Egret circled around the pond north of the boardwalk, swooping high and low. Then it came down close to the lake, dragging its yellow feet across the water. A second or two later, it plunged into the lake and pulled out what looked to be a little bream.

The Snowy Egret brought it’s lunch to the boardwalk rail. After a few seconds, it swallowed the little fish in a big gulp.

This is the animal kingdom’s version of fast food.

Here’s the story in photos:

Splash! The Snowy Egret dives into the lake, hoping to grab a little lunch.
Fish on! The Snowy Egret plucks a little fish from the lake.
With its catch, the Snowy Egret heads to the adjacent Cypress Boardwalk.
After landing on the boardwalk’s railing, the Snowy Egret makes sure it’s catch is secrue.
The Snowy Egret positions its catch as it prepares for its meal.
Gulp! The Snowy Egret swallows the little fish it caught at the Orlando Wetlands Park.
