The station posted a lot of old photos on a Facebook account, and there was a familiar face in the gallery showing station folks from 1977. It was longtime Orlando weatherman Danny Treanor. Before he came to Orlando’s WFTV-Channel 9 in 1978, Treanor was forecasting weather up in the panhandle. Check out a couple of pictures of Treanor and others on the WALA-TV news team in 1977 here.
Our summertime series, Blast from the Past, continues with this ad for the Eyewitness News team that first boosted Channel 9 to news dominance in Central Florida. Here you see the promotion for the 5:30 p.m. newscast with anchors Bob Opsahl and Carole Nelson, and then the 6 o’clock team that included (from left) sports director Mike Storms, Nelson, news director/anchor Bob Jordan and weatherman Danny Treanor.
It’s back. The Orlando Sentinel’s annual ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas video has been posted. In addition to Sentinel staffers, it also includes prominent Orlando TV newsers, politicians, athletes and theme park characters reading the famous holiday poem. (I even make a cameo — see me waving my hands like an idiot in the background while Greg Dawson is reading his part.)
We continue our Blast from the Past series with this newspaper advertisement from 1978.
It’s for weatherman Danny Treanor on WFTV. Back then, Danny did the weather on the noon, 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts. That was quite a long day!
Here’s what the text says: “Rain or shine, you’re certain to get the latest weather word from Danny Treanor, Channel 9 weatherman. Danny studies weather data gathered from satellite information and the most modern in weather wire equipment from the National Weather Service. He plots the facts and reports the prognosis weekdays at Noon, 6 & 11 PM.”

As any avid visitor to this site knows, I love news and old news video. I came across some new “old” video that I hope you’ll enjoy too. Here’s a WFTV Eyewitness News promo from nearly 25 years ago — 1984. It features then-Channel 9 anchor Bob Jordan (now the station’s news director — again), anchor Martie Salt (before she left Channel 9 to go to Tampa), iconic weatherman Danny Treanor and anchor Bob Opsahl. Just after the promo is another with Salt, then a middle-of-the-night news update from anchor Ted Russell.
