Evening puts Wetlands Park in new light

Roger Simmons, March 12, 2023

As you can tell from the photos on this site and the ones I’ve previously shared on Facebook, I’ve been visiting Orlando Wetlands Park at lot – probably at least once a week since the new year began.

But it wasn’t until this past Saturday that I visited in the evening, and what a difference there was. Yes, the lighting was different with the sun setting instead of rising, but that wasn’t the only variation in the time of day. The birds in the park were much more active than I have seen them earlier in the day, especially many around the new Cypress Boardwalk.

The Roseate Spoonbills pink glowed in the evening sun. The white wings of the Wood Storks took on a yellow hue. A Glossy Ibis in breeding colors shined like brilliant cinnamon.

It’s no wonder the last hour before sunset is prized by photographers as the “golden hour.”

Below are a some of my photos from the evening visit.
