WKMG looking for new traffic anchor

Roger Simmons, August 4, 2009

ttt-notes3WKMG traffic anchor Kim Sanders is leaving the station. Mike James’ O-Town TV quotes Channel 6 GM Skip Valet as saying, “We are going to make a change in our morning traffic.” James says that change comes Aug. 21.

You may recall that Sanders was the winner of WKMG’s search for a morning traffic reporter back in 2007 — a sort of American Idol-type competition. Sanders was working in voice-over production when selected for the Local 6 traffic gig. You can watch her original audition tape here. …

Big news from Kendra Oestreich, Carole Nelson and Scott Walker after the jump

WESH 2 reporter Kendra Oestreich was one of the judges who selected the winner of the Mrs. Florida America competition on Saturday. And who was the winner? It was Janet McCulloh, a mother of three and an electrical engineer from Winter Springs. Read more here. …

Congratulations to former O-Town anchor icon Carole Nelson, who was recently married. She and her new husband, Sonny, are heading out on a cruise. Carole and I were exchanging cruise tips, and she mentioned to stay tuned for information about a new TV venture. …

And welcome to the blogosphere WESH Sunrise anchor Scott Walker. He’s getting ready to head to New Orleans, but before leaving O-Town he’s started a new television blog (gee, seems like they’re popping up everywhere now!). Check out Scott’s blog at ScottWalkerTV.com

July 6, 2008

With little fanfare, WKMG has thrown the switch on 16:9 for its newscasts. (Oops — I reported early that Local 6 had gone to HD. Not the case, however.) Local 6 is using 16:9 studio cameras, but its weather graphics and most field reports are still in standard 4:3 with…

No March madness: WFTV still No. 1

April 3, 2009

The unusual — and basically meaningless — March sweeps ended on Wednesday. To no one’s surprise, WFTV-Channel 9 was once again the Nielsen powerhouse for Central Florida. The ratings numbers show 9’s Eyewitness News was the top choice in households and in the 25-54 demo in all the time periods. WESH…

Fox 35 shuffles anchor assignments

January 27, 2009

New Fox 35 news director Gavin Maliska is starting to shake things up at WOFL. This week he shuffled the station’s anchor lineup.  Mike Dunston, who was on Fox at 5, is now the morning co-anchor with Jacquie Sosa and Heidi Hatch. Former morning anchor Tom Johnson has been moved…
