While not nearly as famous as the swallows returning to San Juan Capistrano, there is cause for celebration as the Roseate Spoonbill have come back to the Orlando Wetlands.
They’ve been trickling in for several weeks, but this past weekend their numbers really grew. They’re at the wetlands to roost and start building nests for baby-making season.
The Orlando Wetlands is one of the best places to see the Roseates since many of their nests are easily viewed from the Cypress Boardwalk. The spoonbills nest no higher than about 20 feet, so some nests are almost at eye-level with the boardwalk.
And, not too long from now, we’ll also get to see the next generation of spoonies.
