Meeting Barred Owl family at Mead Garden

Roger Simmons, April 19, 2024April 18, 2024

After my tour of Mead Garden with the Orange Audubon Society group, I decided to return and see if I could spot some birds I missed on the previous trip: a family of Barred Owls.

I saw a youngster with the Audubon group, but he was far away and it never turned its head toward me. But on my return trip, I came across the entire family: Dad, Mom and the two little ones.

Mom was busy feeding the kids what I think was a squirrel captured in the park. Dad was hanging out in a nearby tree.

The lighting wasn’t great, but it was fun watching this owl family interact.
