While a lot of the focus at the Orlando Wetlands these days has been on the newly hatched baby Roseate Spoonbills, I want to talk about the adults.
The babies are certainly cute, but the adult Spoonbills are incredible to photograph. Whether they are just standing still or flying across the landscape, these birds are so photogenic.
I love this description of Roseates from AllAboutBirds.org, “The flamboyant Roseate Spoonbill looks like it came straight out of a Dr. Seuss book with its bright pink feathers, red eye staring out from a partly bald head, and giant spoon-shaped bill.”
As I have noted before, Roseate Spoonbills are one of only six spoonbilled species in the world, and the only one found in America. We’re so fortunate to have so many in our area, at the Orlando Wetlands and at the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge.
Cheers to the Rosies!
