Time for January edition of Backyard Birds

Roger Simmons, February 8, 2024February 8, 2024

I travel around Central Florida (and elsewhere) to find birds to photograph, but I am also fortunate enough to have birds come to me.

I call them my Backyard Birds – and apparently my backyard seems to be popular with a variety of different birds throughout the year.

Some are returning birds, like the Pine Warbler and the Yellow-throated Warbler. Some are new, like the female Painted Bunting. And some are regulars, like the Northern Cardinal and the Blue Jay.

I take pictures of the Backyard Birds to help me improve my photography skills, but sometimes the birds photos are just too great to discarded as part of a learning experience. So I share those particular pictures on social media and here on my site.

Here’s the January 2024 edition of Backyard Birds.

A wet, splish-splashy day at Merritt Island

June 11, 2023June 13, 2023

The Lake Eola swans have been iconic symbols of downtown Orlando’s central park for more than 100 years. Last weekend I went to the park to photograph the swans, which prompted me to learn more about them.
