First day of fall at Orlando Wetlands: Pretty cool day

Roger Simmons, September 24, 2023September 24, 2023

Fall officially arrived on Saturday. And for the first time since I can remember, Florida decided to participate in the changing of the season.

It was a very refreshing 66 degrees on Saturday morning when I arrived at Orlando Wetlands, hoping the cooler weather would lure back from migrating birds. It was also an opportunity for me to try out a new camera.

I did see lots of birds, including the first Roseate Spoonbill to return to the Wetlands for the migration season. Hopefully, the cooler weather and the returning birds will continue!

The first day of fall brought back the first Roseate Spoonbill to the Orlando Wetlands for migration season.
This Roseate Spoonbill was the first one to return to Orlando Wetlands in September 2023. Hopefully there will be dozens and dozens more soon.

Meeting Barred Owl family at Mead Garden

April 19, 2024April 18, 2024

After my tour of Mead Garden with the Orange Audubon Society group, I decided to return and see if I could spot some birds I missed on the previous trip: a family of Barred Owls. I saw a youngster with the Audubon group, but he was far away and it…
