Noah joins News 13 as morning traffic reporter

Veteran Orlando traffic watcher Ted Noah has joined News 13 as its weekday morning news traffic reporter, the station announced Monday.

Noah’s face may not be familiar to Central Florida viewers, but his voice should be. He previously worked for Metro Traffic, providing traffic reports for radio and for News 13′s Traffic Check since 2005. The station also said on many occasions he also served as the photographer for Sky 13 — its shared Metro Traffic helicopter.

“Our viewers count on News 13 to get their day started right and to help them get to work and school on time,” Robin Smythe, News 13’s Vice President/General Manager, said in a news release. “Ted Noah elevates our News 13 Traffic Check reports by offering extended live coverage of morning traffic conditions across Central Florida.  If you need to know the best way to get to work in the morning, there’s no one better to count on than Ted and News 13’s Traffic Check.”

Bay News 9 joins Orlando lineup this week

The rumors are true: Bright House Networks will be adding its Tampa Bay cable news station, Bay News 9, to its Central Florida lineup this week.

The sister channel for our News 13 is expected to go live as early as Tuesday along with a host of other new channels on the cable network.

But … if you just can’t wait to see what the Tampa folks watch for local cable news, you apparently can get a sneak peek early.

According to a post our TV News Talk Message Board area, you can “trick” your cable box to allow you to see Bay News 9 now.

Here are the instructions: Hold down the OK/select button until a small icon flashes on the cable box (takes 10-15 secs).  When it does that, press the right arrow next to the ok/select button and type in 1209 — the Orlando channel for Bay News 9.

Another news channel for Orlando cable TV?

Between lots of travel for business (and some for pleasure), I’m playing catchup with the latest Orlando TV news…

Interesting — and unconfirmed — rumor passed on by a tipster: Bright House may be getting ready to add its Tampa Bay news channel, Bay News 9, to its Orlando channel lineup that already includes Central Florida News 13. Stay tuned. …

Former WKMG traffic reporter Secily Wilson returned to local television screens with a splash. She and her family were on the Orlando-based Family Feud game show. She had a bit of a slip in answering a question in the Fast Money segement — and it made her a YouTube star (with more than 940,000 views so far). Sentinel TV Guy Hal Boedeker catches up with Wilson to see what she’s been doing and how she hopes to return to television beyond game shows. …

Have you noticed the changes at WOFL-Fox 35 during the November sweep? The station has rebranded its 4:30 a.m. to 10 a.m news block “Good Day,” added a news ticker to its newscasts and has seemed to be much more aggressive. Will it make a difference in the ratings? …

Speaking of Fox 35, anchor Cale Ramaker tweeted this update about a former co-anchor:  ”Had a very nice lunch with my former co-anchor Corrina Sullivan, today. Very happy with her decision to be a full-time Mom.” …

GM Jim Carter is verrrrry happy with the performance of his Orlando duopoly, WESH 2 and especially WKCF-CW18. “Absolutely. They have got it going. Our prime-time ratings [on WKCF] this year in October were up 21 percent from last year,” he told the Sentinel. Read the full Q&A with Carter here.

Bright House Sports Network goes HD

Bright House Sports Network logoThe high-definition revolution has made it to local cable television.

Bright House Sports Network announced it is now airing local shows in HD. In a posting on its website, the channel announced,  ”Bright House Sports Network is now in High Definition!  See Toyota Sports Connection, Average Angler Adventures, Hooked on Fishing, high school football Game of the Week and approximately 20 college football games in HD, LIVE on channel 1147!”

So, with the sports network now in HD, what does that mean for Bright House’s local news channels — Central Florida News 13 here in Orlando and Bay News 9 in Tampa?

Perhaps Bright House decided to test out the HD technology first with the less-demanding sports channel before rolling out HD to its news channels.
