Forget what the calendar says and the hot, humid weather. Our avian friends have decided it’s time to start fall migration into or through Florida.
This past weekend at Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive, I came across a couple of migrating Northern Yellow Warblers and Northern Waterthrushes. There was even a male Prairie Warbler, but it could have been one that was also migrating or a year-round Sunshine State resident.
Even though it was still August when I saw these traveling birds, BWD magazine says the prime time for fall migration in Florida is September and October. So, start thinking cooler thoughts and just look for more visiting birds.
