WOFL promises new $1.5M radar will be most powerful in state

August 5th, 2009

guardianWOFL-Fox 35 is upping the ante in the area’s Doppler competition, announcing plans to build a $1.5 million Dual Polarization radar it says will be more powerful than all the other radars in the market combined.

The announcement of the new radar system — dubbed “Guardian” — was made during WOFL’s Fox at 5 newscast Wednesday evening. Ground breaking has already taken place for the new Fox 35 radar facility in Christmas, and the system should be operational in about 45 days, Chief Meteorologist Glenn Richards said.

Fox 35 launches 6 p.m. show on Monday

August 15th, 2007

WOFL will start a 6 p.m. newscast beginning Monday. The Fox 35 10 p.m. anchors — Cale Ramaker, Corrina Sullivan and Glenn Richards — will be at the helm of the new newscast.

The station launched its hourlong 5 p.m. newscast, Fox at 5 , in March 2006. It added weekend editions of Fox at 5 last fall.

Back in January, the station announced plans for an 11 p.m. newscast, which was supposed to start in April. That show never materialized. No word of if those plans are scrapped, if they’re still being considered or if perhaps if the 11 p.m. show might appear on sister station WRBW-My 65.

With Fox 35’s new show, there will now be seven — seven! — 6 p.m. newscasts in the Orlando market. The others: WKMG-Channel 6, WESH-Channel 2, WFTV-Channel 9, WTMO-Telemundo, WVEN-Univision, Central Florida News 13.

Kaufeldt Moves on to Fox at 5

February 24th, 2006

Amy Kaufeldt bid goodbye to her morning co-anchors on Fox 35 Friday. She’s moving to the new "Fox at 5" evening newscast, which begins on March 6 on WOFL.

Here’s what we know about the new newscast and what’s going to happen on WOFL’s morning show. The new 5 p.m. newscast will be split into 20-minute segments, heavy with weather first with chief met Glenn Richards. The show is being described as "family friendly" — aka, lots of soft features, I would suspect.

As for mornings, Kaufeldt said Trei Johnson is replacing her as anchor, effective Monday. Julie Kim replaces Johnson as field reporter for the morning show.

Best part about the move to the evening newscast fro Kaufeldt? She’s now on a 9 a.m.-6 p.m. work day. Pretty amazing.
